"Mr President, my thanks to Mr Gerbrandy for his question. Our debate today has nothing to do with national budgets. We are debating the multiannual financial framework of the European Union. As you know, Mr Gerbrandy, there are a whole series of Member States that are saying that there must be no rise in the European budget. May I also remind you that an awful lot of hard work has gone into producing EUR eight billion of savings in the Dutch budget, while at the same time, in the European Union, all we have is an insistence on increasing the budgets, something that, for me, is a major scandal. Thank you."@en1
