"The European Union has a crucial role to play in the field of energy, which is an area for which a European approach is fully justified. The stakes are high: security of energy supply; diversification of means of production; projects of European interest. However, all this can only be achieved at European level. This own-initiative report deserves credit for making this point and is thus a step in the right direction. What we lack above all in the field of energy and in the fight against climate change is political will. I voted in favour of this report, and I will pay close attention to the proposals to be made by the European Commission on energy infrastructure in October. We will also need to monitor closely the drafting of the next multiannual financial framework to ensure that a sufficient budget is allocated to enable the development of a true common energy policy at EU level. EU energy infrastructure projects should be funded through Eurobonds in particular, which would increase investment and ensure complementarity of public and private partners."@en1
