"There is a lack of transparency and public acceptance in development projects funded fully or partially by the EU. I am against calls to find new sources of development funding, such as a financial transaction tax at global level, via private-sector finance and market-orientated solutions. It is up to Member States to decide whether they are willing to support developing countries using taxpayers’ money, and not through some EU charity created to bring positive publicity to the EU"@en1
