"Parliament has made it clear that Europe needs a strong regional policy to reduce regional disparities and benefit everyone across the EU, and I support the measures included in this report. Measures such as stronger controls, more transparency and cutting red tape should all be welcomed. MEPs supported the creation of an intermediate category for those areas that have a GDP between 75% and 90%, creating a buffer for those areas that fall out of convergence, allowing more predictable planning for spending by regions. I also support the adequate funding of the Cohesion Policy in the future so it can make a real difference to regions across the EU."@en1
