"I voted in favour of this report as I feel that ordinary investors need to know that they are protected when making decisions on where to invest for their future. MEPs voted for compensation against fraudulent and defaulting investment firms, and added ‘bad advice’ as grounds for claiming compensation. The rules would also enable local authorities and NGOs, as well as private individuals, to file compensation claims.
More protection for investors should be welcomed, but calls to increase the level of protection from EUR 50 000 to EUR 100 000 were unfortunately defeated, as once again we see the right-wing voting to protect their chums in the City, and not investors in Wales."@en1
