The three main objectives of the report are to: increase consumer protection through higher coverage; improve the European single market for financial services and harmonise investor compensation schemes in the Union; and put forward long-term, robust financing principles for investor compensation schemes. The new EU legislation should increase the harmonisation and integration of the European single market, strengthen consumer protection, create more confidence among consumers and depositors and thereby enhance financial stability."@en1
