In order to attain the proposed objectives, strong investment in energy infrastructures is fundamental. I welcome the proposal to set up a European connection mechanism contained in the Multiannual Financial Framework 2014-2022 adopted by the European Commission. The Connecting Europe Facility aims to expedite the development of infrastructure in the fields of energy, transport and information and communication technology with a budget of EUR 40 billion for the 2014-2020 period. I would draw particular attention to this mechanism in terms of its support for the islands and outermost regions, such as the Canary Islands, Madeira, the Azores and the French overseas departments, whose specific requirements in terms of energy infrastructure must be taken into account."@en1
