"The internal market remains one of the pillars and drivers of European integration. I voted in favour of this report as it represents not only a major advance towards further European integration, but also, once they are implemented, these regulations will enable all citizens to benefit from the same high level of protection, whatever their mode of purchase. Thus, online purchases will finally become subject to clear regulations: the trader must provide the purchaser with full information about the cost and the characteristics of the good as well as providing him or her with a point of contact. ‘Traditional’ purchases will also be better protected: all European consumers will benefit from a 14-day withdrawal period, which can be extended if they have not received certain essential information. Consumers and traders will be better informed and will benefit from standard protection throughout the EU. Thus they will be in a position to derive even greater benefit from the advantages of the internal market."@en1
