lpv:translated text	"Madam President, ladies and gentlemen, the proposal for a Directive on Consumer Rights presented by the Commission has the merit of combining the four previous directives on the subject in a single legislative instrument. I agree with the report’s objectives. It is essential to guarantee a high level of protection for consumers in the 27 Member States and at the same time take into due account the need for manufacturers, regardless of their size, to provide their goods and services to European consumers without having to deal with unnecessary legal barriers. As things currently stand, the elimination of legal fragmentation is a difficult result to achieve. Mrs Wortmann-Kool’s report also rightly expresses doubts as to whether full harmonisation could produce different effects to those expected. I therefore voted in favour, because I am convinced that it would be useful to make an amendment to the Commission’s proposal, achieving minimum harmonisation and at the same time guaranteeing a high-level service to consumers."@en1
