"We all agree that there is a need to improve data and indicators to complement gross domestic product (GDP) for overall societal development. The ‘GDP and beyond – Measuring progress in a changing world’ initiative is a complementary instrument capable of contributing to improving analysis and political debate. GDP is an indicator of market economic activity that has become the standard point of reference at the service of the world’s decision makers. GDP is a measure of production that does not measure environmental sustainability, resource efficiency, social inclusion and social progress in general. I therefore agree that in the future, other types of instruments should be studied that allow for a greater number of reliable data for measuring a world that is changing."@en1
