I think it is necessary to find a complementary system which could contribute to improved policy analysis and debate through the use of clear supplementary indicators for measuring medium- and long-term economic and social progress. This will certainly not be an easy task, given the delicate nature of the matter and the potential impacts of decisions taken in this context. The challenge we are preparing to embrace therefore lies in finding reliable indicators that are theoretically consistent, politically relevant and empirically measurable."@en1
