"I think President Sarkozy’s idea was an excellent one because the Internet is a global phenomenon. We all want an Internet that is open. We think it contributes hugely to knowledge and freedom. At the same time, the Internet is often open to abuse: there is exploitation, of children, for example, and crimes committed by taking advantage of the freedoms that the Internet offers. We have therefore had a very interesting discussion with some of the big names in the creation of Internet initiatives, from the head of Google to Mr Zuckerberg, the head of Facebook, and others. We talked about what type of regulation is appropriate for the Internet, while maintaining the freedom and potential for innovation that the Internet offers. So there was debate followed by confirmation that this matter, the Internet, will appear on a future G8 agenda."@en1
