"Mr President, many thanks to the honourable Members for a very serious and substantive discussion. The Commission is aware that more needs to be done; this has been underlined by several Members, and I fully agree that the well-being of small and medium-sized enterprises is crucial for Europe’s recovery, for growth and for employment. When our SMEs do well, the European economy does well. I can assure you that the implementation of the ‘think small first’ principle and the actions proposed in the Small Business Act are a foremost priority for the Commission. I want to thank you for your support in this regard. The Commission is looking forward to working closely with all relevant players, especially the European Parliament, to ensure effective implementation of the Small Business Act at European level and at national level, in the Member States. The European SME Week in October will be a good opportunity to work together to raise awareness of SME policy and the needs of SMEs everywhere in the European Union. We are organising this event together with the Parliament and the Commission."@en1
