"The report emphasises the guiding role of the European Union as an effective global actor on the international stage. Performing that role requires a more strategic external action and a single foreign policy uniting all the Member States. That seems utopian to me in view of the ongoing events in the Middle East and in the Mediterranean countries. I voted against the report because it seeks to limit national powers while creating new agencies and tackling new military operations, which would entail increased spending, and it also wants to give added momentum to Turkey’s accession negotiations."@en1
