Since forests are the main absorber of carbon, sustainable forest management is key to achieving the EU’s climate change goals. We need to bring protection and production together in the management of our forests in order to ensure the viability of their environmental, social and economic functions. The EU has a role to play in promoting best management practice that suits the needs of local actors and communities, and in incentivising forestation efforts compatible with local conditions and native species."@en1
