"We support the text on EU-Japan trade relations because Japan ensures protection and respect for workers and the global economy, despite being a third country. Reducing and simplifying the rules and making fair, open trade simpler can only improve its relations with Europe. Reciprocal investment in the two economies is worth EUR 200 billion a year: the EU is Japan’s third largest trading partner and, in turn, Japan is the sixth largest trading partner for the EU. The report also calls for an assessment of any negative impact that such decisions might entail, but we certainly think that the removal of barriers to trade and investment can only be positive. We therefore voted in favour of the report."@en1
