"This motion for a resolution of the European Parliament concerns a free trade agreement (FTA) between the European Union and India. Trade relations between the EU and India are significant, since the EU is India’s principal trade partner and its biggest foreign investor. For its part, the EU is the principal recipient of Indian foreign investment and, as such, it must continue to prioritise a multilateral trade system which favours developing countries. Indeed, India is the largest beneficiary of the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP). If we take into account the importance of strategic relations between the EU and India, as well as the safeguarding of matters relating to agriculture, respect for human rights and the issue of child labour in particular, environmental preservation and compliance with the International Labour Organisation’s recommendations on social and copyright issues, all the conditions for voting in favour of this motion for a resolution are in place."@en1
