"The approval of a common transparency register, following a broad majority vote in the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, is another step towards greater transparency in parliamentary activity. A common register between the European Parliament and the Commission that is public and accessible online will make it easier for citizens to check the various stakeholders with whom MEPs interact.
However, the agreement still needs to be improved as registration by actors is still on a voluntary basis, although a pre-requisite for obtaining access to the institutions. The next objective will therefore be to make registration mandatory for all lobbyists. We also expect that, like the other European institutions, the Council will adhere to the indications of Parliament and the Commission and participate in the register."@en1
