"− According to scientific forecasts, by the mid-21st century it will become normal for Earth’s seas and oceans to be empty, as a result of our unwise management of the natural resources of fish and seafood. In spite of the restrictions and bans which have been introduced, much illegal fishing goes on, or even fishing that can be considered pillaging. It is therefore necessary to step up monitoring, in order to prevent the destruction of aquatic ecosystems, and a subsequent ecological disaster. A rational fisheries policy is particularly important in view of the food crisis, which is a threat we are facing at the same time as the human population is growing. As the largest market for such products, the European Union should therefore support measures aimed at preventing violations of fisheries legislation."@en1
