"I have voted against the report on governance and partnership in the Single Market because I find it too unbalanced. Some outstanding issues are not assessed with due attention. We should not believe that the great Single Market is the solution to all of Europe’s problems, as it appears to be in some parts of this report. I believe that some features and peculiarities of the various Member States should be taken into account. Not all countries are the same and a measure that may be useful in one country might possibly cause serious damage in another Member State. In addition, the system of penalties for offences should be carefully considered, since it runs the risk of exacerbating already difficult situations with still more damaging measures. We still have to remember all the problems which the infamous Services Directive has caused and continues to cause, at least in Italy, for example, among itinerant tradespeople and seaside businesses. I would not like these problems to recur with increasing frequency."@en1
