"Mr President, I should like to ask the President of the Commission and the President of the Council to somehow pay homage to the 50 and more anonymous Japanese workers who are working in the knowledge that they will die. In this Parliament we pay homage to activists fighting to save the brown bear, for example in the Himalayas. With all due respect, did no one here think that we should also say something about these people who, even though they know they will die, have been working there for days on end? I should like to read exactly what one Japanese worker said who was able to give a short interview. He said: ‘I feel very strongly that there is no one apart from us to do this work and that we cannot go home until we have finished the job’. TEPCO’S stock of anti-radiation suits ran out very quickly. He and his colleagues were forced to invent spare parts."@en1
