"A good example I can give you is that of our working relations with Ukraine. I will attend the Nuclear Safety Summit in Kiev on 19 April 2011, organised by the Ukrainian Government, and I will be there together with the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon. In fact, we have been one of the most important donors – if not the most important – to Chernobyl so that it can be fully repaired.
As the European Council stated in its conclusions, the priority of ensuring the safety of nuclear plants obviously cannot cease to apply at our borders. The European Union will request that similar stress tests be carried out in the neighbouring countries and worldwide, at both existing and planned nuclear plants and, in this regard, full use should be made of the relevant international organisations.
So, certainly, we are going to accord very high priority to nuclear safety in our relations with third countries, including some that you have mentioned."@en1
