"I believe that the current system for collecting tourism statistics is not consistent with the new requirements we face, or with the rapidly developing tourist services market or the fact that tourists’ habits are changing. It is therefore right that the report should take into account features such as short breaks or the use of the Internet to book trips. The updating and optimisation of the legal framework for the collection of statistical data in the field of tourism in the EU is extremely important in this respect. Tourism statistics and social and economic indicators illustrate the influence of tourism on the current state of the European economy. It is also vital to propose the insertion of a provision imposing an obligation to collect data regarding the accessibility of the tourist infrastructure to persons with reduced mobility."@en1
