"Network and information security is a growing concern not only for political decision makers, but for all those who increasingly use it to interact with each other and with the state authorities.
The same care and attention that once guided public efforts to prosecute violation of correspondence should now be required for the security of the new forms of communication. These are more sophisticated, and so they need to be monitored constantly and updated continuously.
I agree with extending the mandate of the European Network and Information Security Agency by 18 months, as proposed by the Commission and voted upon by the parliamentary committee, so as to allow a rich and fruitful discussion between the European institutions, involving the people, about the challenges, priorities and responsibilities of the agency, and at the same time to avoid the legal vacuum that would be caused if the mandate were not extended."@en1
