I wanted to express my vote against the report in relation to single residence permits for citizens of third countries because today, in the House, some amendments were voted to exclude the requirement for employment as being necessary in order to have access to benefits and social services. It seems to me to be a dangerous lowering of the minimum required standards and it enables a third-country citizen, obviously with a valid residence permit in the EU, to have access to the same working and social conditions as an EU citizen. If a European Union exists, it is to ensure, also, that the inhabitants of Member States that are its citizens can enjoy greater rights and guarantees than are called for in this report."@en1
