".
Through this own-initiative report the European Parliament aims to call for a more ambitious EU policy to be devised in relation to the Gulf Cooperation Council and its member states. I voted for this report because I think that this is the direction we should choose. All the more so as the Gulf Cooperation Council recently declared that it no longer recognises Muammar Gaddafi’s regime as legitimate. We are pleased and encouraged by this policy. The Council condemned the crimes perpetrated by the Gaddafi regime against the civilian population and called for immediate intervention from the League of Arab States and the UN Security Council. The integration process initiated 30 years ago by the six member states of this Council is still so far the only experiment of its kind in the Arab world. We must support them."@en1
