"The European Union and Gulf Cooperation Council have been negotiating a free trade agreement for some 20 years. Both parties would benefit from more in-depth relations, especially as there are numerous opportunities for cooperation in the fields of education, scientific research and renewable energies. On the domestic front, the GCC countries have, for some years now, been going through a new process of political and social modernisation, which must be supported and encouraged. I think that we need continuous dialogue between the European Union and Gulf Cooperation Council in order to make progress in promoting human rights and freedoms, as well as those of minorities, and in the battle against every form of discrimination, including discrimination based on gender or religion. This is the reason why I voted for this report."@en1
