"There is a close link between the future of the CAP and EU external trade policy. They are two realities which cannot be considered in isolation and to which the European Union must pay particular attention. We cannot separate the trade discussions from their impact on agricultural production in the Member States. Therefore, I am in favour of a liberalised market that also takes into account the requirements of the EU’s economic and trade partners. At the same time, however, I believe that agricultural policy should be included in the negotiation of the agreements for monitoring the quality of products exported to or imported by our markets and protecting European producers and our food supplies. Consequently, I am in favour of the Papastamkos report. However, an imbalance has developed in some areas of trade due to the distribution of responsibilities between the agricultural and trade committees of this Parliament, which should work in synergy to define a contractual balance applicable to the various commercial treaties within the EU agricultural sector."@en1
