"Madam President, the Vienna Philharmonic, probably the best classical music orchestra in the world, only permitted women members to join and perform with them a few years ago. Just imagine what our orchestra here, this Parliament, would look and sound like if we did not have our women members livening it up with their character and informed debate.
It is obvious that a day like today, a day to remind us of the inequality of women, is more than necessary. On pay day, on the day when roles are allocated at work, and on all days when it comes to caring for children and family, women are not equal. Our responsibility in the European Parliament and the responsibility of our colleagues in national parliaments is to legislate appropriately in order to bring about that equality. However, I think that we will also promote that equality by showing care and attention to women on a daily basis."@en1
