"Radioactive contamination is hazardous to human health, and our role as Members of the European Parliament is to do everything in our power to ensure that the food supplied to consumers is safe and healthy. We should therefore make the necessary preparations to enable us to respond rapidly and effectively enough in the event of a hazard, while, at the same time, constantly updating regulations and adapting them to the current state and progress of technology. Procedures need to be simplified and competences transferred to the Member States, which will be able to deal with such situations effectively. In this case, it would appear to be of key importance to set limits for concentrations of radioactive substances, for the safety of society and of the natural environment."@en1
