"I should like to congratulate Mr Cancian for his excellent work, thanks to which we were able to reach a satisfying and well-balanced compromise. Indeed, as a result of this report, from this day forth, the rights of bus and coach passengers – the only ones hitherto not specifically protected at European level – will also be guaranteed. I therefore voted in favour of this document, in which I also appreciate the attention paid to the automotive companies operating in the sector. In fact, the agreements reached managed to avoid putting excessive burdens on carriers, which are often family-run and of modest dimensions. At the same time, I think it is important that the European Union adopt a specific regulation that will lead shortly to a charter of passengers’ rights, focusing, in particular, on the needs of disabled persons or persons with reduced mobility."@en1
