lpv:translated text	"In line with the European Union’s policy on human rights and the promotion of democracy, I voted in favour of the regulation since I believe that the values and principles on which our Union is based must be promoted and passed on around the world. There are still countries, however, where human rights are not respected and democracy does not play a significant role, and where the people live in a state of slavery and submission with no freedom of expression. In that respect, I believe the Union’s external assistance needs to be made more effective and transparent so as to ensure that democracy and human rights are granted the importance they deserve throughout the world. It would therefore be appropriate to establish a financing instrument in order to facilitate and support the promotion of human rights and democracy."@en1
