"With Hungary, as with any other Member State, we have to implement European law in an objective, impartial manner. We have to look at it very cautiously from a legal point of view, so we need to follow a clear methodology.
That is what we – in the shape of Vice-President Kroes – have been doing. Yesterday, she gave extensive reports to the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs and the Committee on Culture and Education. We have some concerns about Hungary’s media law. By the end of this week, we intend to send a first letter to the government of Hungary to which the Hungarian authorities should respond.
I repeat: we have to follow clear, objective, impartial, legally-based procedures, because Hungary, just like any other EU Member State, has the right to impartiality on the part of the Commission. I can reassure you, however, that we are following this matter very attentively."@en1
