Unfortunately, poll results show that a sense of European identity and unity is becoming increasingly rare among the European public, and the situation is the same for trust in the EU institutions. Promoting knowledge of our common history and common cultural roots may be particularly helpful in the process of bringing the EU closer to its citizens, and also in building a sense of cohesion and solidarity between them. The new European Heritage Label may be helpful in just this respect. Streamlining procedures and standardising the criteria for awarding the label will make it more prestigious and improve the EU’s image, as well as increasing its citizens’ trust in institutions such as the European Parliament."@en1
