lpv:translated text	"This report results from an initiative by the Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats) during the course of the debate on the future of cohesion and regional policy. The strengthening of the territorial, social and economic cohesion of the European Union is one of the directions that needs to be taken to contribute to global competitiveness. I agree entirely with the fundamental objective of this report, which is to emphasise the role that cohesion policy plays in reducing economic, social and territorial disparities, creating new jobs, increasing growth and building infrastructure.
