"Mr President, I, too, would like to stress the importance of promoting energy efficiency as it can provide significant benefits for the whole economy. The social benefits must also be mentioned, which includes the creation of new jobs by 2020.
I think that it is vital to develop and sell new, cutting-edge energy technologies. This is the way to maintain the competitiveness of energy intensive European businesses in the face of global competition. I support reaching an agreement on a common methodology for measuring national energy efficiency targets and monitoring progress on achieving them.
I also welcome the Commission’s work ‘towards a single Energy network’. It ought to submit practical proposals to simplify and speed up authorisation procedures for infrastructure projects."@en1
