On 23 June 2010, the European Parliament adopted a resolution ‘setting up a European early warning system (EWS) for paedophiles and sex offenders’. The Commission had already, on 22 May 2007, published a communication entitled ‘Towards a general policy on the fight against cyber crime’. Parliament called on the Council and the Commission to act on the Commission communication of May 2007 and also to implement Directive 2006/24/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 15 March 2006 on the retention of data generated or processed in connection with the provision of publicly available electronic communications services or of public communications networks, and to extend its scope with a view to setting rules on preservation of the data of anyone who has uploaded Internet content, so as to enable the police and judiciary to tackle online child pornography and sex offending rapidly and effectively. Would the Commission please outline the action taken on this resolution?"@en1
