"Waste electrical and electronic equipment is increasing all the time, and it brings together several hazardous substances. These substances may be discharged into the environment and harm human health if they are not treated properly.
This directive will enable numerous companies to make even more progress in designing new and safer electrical and electronic equipment by encouraging technological innovation. The reduction in hazardous substances, upstream, will also lead to a reduction in recycling costs. Finally, and critically, we have obtained an exemption for solar panels in order to encourage the development of renewable energy technologies within Europe."@en1
