"Mr President, since creation of jobs is one of the priorities in the programme we have, I would like to draw the Commission’s attention to a new era of emigration from southern Europe. But I am afraid nobody in the Commission is listening to me. Already in Greece, we are seeing huge numbers of young skilled and highly skilled workers emigrate to Australia, Canada and the Emirates. The same thing is happening in Ireland.
On one hand, Germany has announced that it has a skilled labour shortage. What I would like to say is that Germany does not have to import skilled labour from third countries. Member States that face economic problems could provide skilled labour to Germany. I would very much like to propose an initiative, to be taken up with the Commission, developing the notion of added value. Why not adopt a labour market with European added value? Within the Member States, we have to face supply and demand. We have to strengthen Europe with a European skilled labour force. This is missing in the programme and I strongly propose it."@en1
