"I voted in favour as I believe that the inclusion of Taiwan on the list of third countries whose nationals are exempt from visas, the so-called ‘positive list’, is justified in view of the level of development that Taiwan has achieved in terms of democratic governance, economic growth and education, thus contributing to strengthening trade relations between the European Union and this territory. It is also worth pointing out that this measure does not represent increased risks in terms of illegal immigration and public security, while the Taiwanese government’s commitment to extend the exemption of visas to all 27 Member States by the end of 2010 should also be emphasised."@en1
