"I voted against the report on the demographic challenge and intergenerational solidarity for it contained unacceptable stances. There are particularly interesting things in this text, like the fact that youth employment should not be set against retaining over-50s in the labour market, as well as the emphasis placed on lifelong learning and the fight against age and gender discrimination in the labour market. However, the text also contains many recommendations concerning pension systems that I cannot endorse. Among other things, the text invites states to scrap the legal retirement age, and lays great stress upon the need to reduce the burden of the public debt, which is tantamount to encouraging privately funded pension systems that are particularly unfair. The report also invites states to increase employment rates by expanding part-time work, which only serves to make job insecurity worse. These are some of the reasons why I voted against this text."@en1
