"Madam President, I, too, wish to take my turn in congratulating the rapporteur on her very efficient work on such an important report. The report provides an important instrument for financing and implementing projects in the energy sector that will aid economic recovery at difficult times and help to complete the internal energy market and attain the climate and energy targets set by the European Union for 2020.
The creation of a fund to support energy efficiency and renewable initiatives is especially important, even with a small initial endowment of EUR 146 million. I am delighted that the European Parliament has stood by its commitment to promote renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.
Finally, I should like to comment on the need for a balanced geographical distribution of future programmes, so that they can benefit all the Member States. Greece received just 1.5% of the programme for natural gas pipelines. I trust that we shall have a fairer distribution in future."@en1
