"I voted in favour of the report because it is very important for gender equality and to the defence of the rights of workers – men and women – in terms of maternity and paternity rights. This is an important step forward in defending and promoting women’s rights and equality in general in the workplace, given that, according to the report, ‘the vulnerability of pregnant workers and of workers who have recently given birth or are breastfeeding makes it necessary for them to be granted the right to maternity leave of at least 20 continuous weeks, allocated before and/or after confinement, and renders necessary the compulsory nature of maternity leave of at least six weeks allocated after confinement’.
I also voted in favour of the report on the basis of an additional, very important element in it: the recognition of the father’s right to two weeks’ paternity leave."@en1
