"Women are being hit harder by the current economic crisis precisely because they are a more sensitive category, in that their work is normally not confined to the workplace but also extends to the home and family. Most precarious work is done by women, who therefore find themselves with no job security, on low pay and with less social protection and low qualifications.
In these circumstances, women who are ready to return to work after periods of absence due to illness or childbirth often find that they have no job. Our delegation is highly sensitive to these problems and, I would add, to the very similar issues of women who are not employed but are self-employed. Unfortunately, we could have endorsed this report in its entirety if it did not promote policies to integrate female workers from outside the European Union at the expense of European citizens. That is why we voted against it."@en1
