First of all we have with us the President of the European Council, Mr Herman Van Rompuy, the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, and the representative of the Council’s rotating presidency, Mr Chastel. I wish you all a very warm welcome back to the European Parliament. We have two honoured speakers in this meeting. The first is Mr Lothar de Maizière, musician, lawyer, but, above all, leading politician, the first and last freely-elected Prime Minister of East Germany. He signed the 2+4 Treaty and, after reunification, he was engaged by Chancellor Kohl as Minister for Special Affairs."@en¹
