lpv:translated text	"The achievements of the European Union’s cohesion policy and the added value it can bring to the EU 2020 strategy are indisputable. The role which this policy plays in boosting regions’ competitiveness and facilitating their increasing adaptability must also be highlighted. Although the cohesion policy’s priorities should be aligned with the EU 2020 objectives, I think that there should be sufficient flexibility to be able to take into account specific regional features and to support weaker regions with greater needs, so that the latter can overcome socio-economic difficulties and natural handicaps, and so that disparities can be reduced. A strong, well-funded European Union regional policy which provides benefits to every region in the EU is a prerequisite for meeting our future objectives."@en1
