Unfortunately, even though this is a topic which has been under discussion for many years now, few realise the terrible impact that copyright infringement has on our economies. Hence, there is a need to start raising the institutions’ awareness that they must carefully consider the possibilities for finding concrete, satisfactory solutions. The report also emphasises and indeed urges the Commission to take real steps aimed at combating online piracy. It is not easy, but it is necessary to strike a balance between free access to the Internet and the fight against piracy. Mrs Gallo’s report fits perfectly within this aim and I am therefore voting in favour of this report."@en1
