"Question 44 by Richard Howitt ()
The British Government’s decision to disband the UK Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) means that European funding under the ERDF, the European Social Fund and rural development programmes which, in my East of England constituency, had previously been delivered by the East of England Development Agency, will now have to be delivered in an alternative way in the UK.
As any changes in the management and control system for EU programmes have to be approved by the Commission, can the Commission say what consultations have already taken place with the UK Government on this issue and confirm whether EU payments may be suspended pending Commission approval of any changes to the management and control system? What interim arrangements might be put in place to ensure that local people and community groups who benefit from these European funds in my own and other UK regions will not suffer from a cash shortfall stemming from the UK Government’s decision to abolish the RDAs?"@en1
