"The World Health Organisation has estimated that counterfeit medicines account for as much as 10% of the world’s pharmaceutical market. Counterfeit medicines are a matter of people’s health and welfare, and so the issue is a worrying one. It is a welcome move that improvements are now being made to patients’ access to information about medicines and their adverse reactions. In future, the information will be more easily accessible, for example, on new national and European websites dedicated to drug safety. Finally, I want to state my support for the rapporteur’s proposal that the Commission should be requested to produce a report on the environmental impact of medicines and assess whether there is a need to make further amendments to EU legislation on drugs in the near future. Thank you."@en1
