"The formal ceremony to mark the declaration of a new constitution in the modern western style as one of the greatest events in Kenyan history since the declaration of independence in 1963 will forever be marred by the visit of the Sudanese war criminal Omar al-Bashir. By inviting a man who is responsible for the massacre of civilians in Darfur and is guilty of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide, Kenya has shown that the new efforts to strengthen freedom, democracy and the legal state are just empty words.
The indifference of Kenya to the fulfilment of its international commitments is, in my opinion, very worrying, and I would like to add my voice to the call for Kenya to reconfirm its political will and determination to fulfil its commitments arising from the Rome Statute setting up the International Criminal Court."@en1
